Some News!
Today Carleton is hosting the Minnesota Undergraduate Psychology Conference. Carleton hosts it every 10 or so years, so I feel pretty lucky to have been there today and to have had the chance to volunteer and to see some of the posters and presentations. The key note speaker, Dan Simons, was definitely my favorite talk of the day! His current institutional affiliation is the University of Illinois, but he was a Carleton alum! So, he did the MUPC twice as a Carleton undergrad! Anyway, I told a few people -- Dad, Jim, and Tony about how cool his talk was! Instead of saying anymore about it, I thought I'd show you some of the clips he showed us during his presentation.
I was cracking up for like 20 minutes after the second video! How can you not realize that?! There are also a bunch of studies where a participant will come in and they will be handed the consent form by someone on the other side of a counter and then that person will bend down to get something and a different person (of the same gender) will stand back up. A majority of the time people didn't even notice!
The talk was wonderful and got me really excited about senior comps, which we've already begun! My friend, Cari, and I will be doing our comps together, but instead of doing a "library comps" which is essentially a research paper, and instead of creating and executing an empirical study, we are going to create a 300 level psychology course. We'll still have the opportunity to learn about a topic that interests, but we'll be presenting it in a way that is not just a standard research paper! And it will work really well with my Ed Studies concentration! And instead of a normal presentation, we will hold a class session as our way of presenting comps! That's enough about psychology.
What has everyone else been up to lately?
