Hi everyone. I'm sorry for not getting some pictures up sooner. As some of you might know, while we were up on the island the Des Plaines river flooded over and our basement got 6 feet of water. Yesterday I finally got a chance to do some house cleaning, so it's starting to feel like home again, though we haven't moved anything back into the basement.
So here are some Beaver Island photos.
That right there is Jim's old tent, where Matt slept. We ended out moving it though because it accumulated a lot of water in that spot, and Matt threatened to sleep in my tent.
This is the North West view. The land mass on the left is Garden Island, where Jacky Mouse's nephew Sheldon's memorial is located.
Ah yes, the old camp ground. I'm standing in Lake Michigan in this picture, facing South. This is a picture of the north west tip of Beaver Island.
That right there is the Beaver Island Library. I heard from the new doctor on the island (Jessica, my love) that this is a real nice library, and if one needed to they could go in and get internet access. I'm sure that they have real good books too.
On this day we went to town together. I think it was our first full day on the island. I remember that we split up, and Matt and I started walking back to the camp grounds. We were picked up by a local and he drove us to get ice and then back to the camp ground. When I offered him a "cold one" for the road as thanks for the ride, he turned down the offer, which I thought was strange.
Okay, there are a lot more pictures and stories but I gotta start getting ready for work. I hope everyone has a real productive day.

pretty sweet
6 FEET of water? Wow. Sounds like you're starting to get back to normal, but still - wow. Is anyone's room in the basement?
Thanks for the photos - the campsite looks beautiful. I'm jealous of your campfire. My sister and I tried to camp near Rockford this past Saturday night. We came home early because we couldn't start a fire in over 2 hours, even with the help of lighter fluid and lots of paper (including, ironically, the Smoky the Bear comic book the ranger gave us at check-in.) We have both started fires successfully many times in the past without any flammable liquids, so we were mystified by the non-flamingness of these particular logs. We bought new firewood from the camp store - no luck. We resorted to dousing a log in lighter fluid, then lighting it. This flared up nicely, but still died out within 10 seconds. We even managed to extinguish a small flame by pouring lighter fluid on it - twice. Totally pathetic, but highly entertaining at the time.
Hi, Tina! Glad to hear from you. How are you?
Dan, Beaver Island looks so epic. Like something out of lord of the rings. That campfire makes me want to camp out right now! That's an awesome way to say thanks haha! I hope to someday walk on the islands--free of murlocs i hope (haha) On a side note did you get to watching any Mighty Boosh? The shows great! A wise man once told me: "The longer you wait to watch it the longer your depriving yourself of a great laugh." Cheers!
I believe it was Old Gregg that said:
"When Bootsie Collins came to he was slappin' that bass like some kind delirious funky priest!"
I've almost completed watching the entire series of The Mighty Boosh. It's good for a laugh or two, for sure. I looked them up on Wikipedia and it looks like they are recording their music to release a full length CD, which I'm looking forward to.
Kris- no one was living down there last I visited. Too bad about that camping trip! All this talk makes me want to go camping again, even though my last Beaver Island trip was early August.
Dan and Tom- I am glad to know you all found some value in that show! Actually I am laughing my arse off at that rediculous quote. I honestly don't understand half the non-sense in that show the first time I see it. I've been watching a lot of Dexter and Trailerpark Boys. Dexter? Anyone?
hi Kris! i'm doing awesome, thanks for asking :)
sorry for the lack of details in that response...post to come soon! SUPER soon.
i'm assuming all is well with you...?
Kris, nobody's room was in the basement. We had a ton of musical equipment and gear down there, a bunch of sub woofers and amps. As well a three dozen barrels of TNT. Just kidding about that last one.
: )
