Hi Family,
I returned to Arlington Heights last night from Canada. I was in Vancouver for a conference at the University of British Columbia. The pacific west coast is such an amazing place! I love all of the evergreens, bald eagles, herons (I think) rocks and mountains. I wish I was a real mountain climber, but the only structures I've ever really climbed with a harness are old silos in Bloomington, IL. Yes, I am a flatlander, but I really love the West.
It is also very inspiring to witness the reverence shown to native tribes in Canada. They refer to their native tribes as the First Nations, and their art is prominently displayed and celebrated, it seems.
See you all soon,
Jim

It's a joy to hear about the way ancient culture is preserved. Over the weekend I visited El Paso and San Antonio with Allison, her dad, her brother and his friend. Me and Alli made sure to check out the Alamo while we were in San Antonio.
Unfortunately my camera broke on the second day of this vacation! I learned a lot of history about the place. Tom, you would have loved this epic tabletop model they had of miniature soldiers fighting to defend the town. I suggest you look into the story. We wouldn't want to forget the Alamo.
Love and bien viajes a todo. Be seeing you all in a couple of weeks.
Tony: you should come visit me and Jim in Champaign/Urbana on your way to 536
I'm glad you said something. Otherwise it would've seemed like I invited myself...
