Random Post recommendations

I just wanted to make a post and didn't know what to post about for the family so I made this random post.

Post recommendations in a reply to this. Anything that you recommend you can reply with, post anything you recommend, I will start.

Movie: Cars
I just saw this for the first time two nights ago and it is already in my top 5 of all time.

Music: Any/all of Weird Al's polkas(Polka Your Eyes Out, Angry White Boy Polka, Hooked on Polkas, Polkas on 45, ...others)
These songs are pure entertainment.

Here are a couple of "old person's" recommendations. Try them--you might enjoy them more than you expect!

Movie: DOCTOR ZHIVAGO--this is more than forty years old, but is still my all-time favorite movie. It has everything--great story, drama, cinematography, music, a realistic portrayal of the Bolshevik revolution and its aftermath (which author Boris Pasternak lived through).
For a laugh-a-minute movie, I recommend the even-older MR. BLANDINGS BUILDS HIS DREAM HOUSE, with Cary Grant, Myrna Loy, and William Powell. Uncle James and I have seen this numerous times, so we know what to expect, but we still can't stop laughing.

MUSIC: Tchaikovsky's Symphony #1, "Winter Dreams." You can't listen to this without feeling as if you are walking in a birch forest under a full moon in the middle of winter!

I just listed to a sample of Winter Dreams on youtube:

It's exactly what I was looking for. If you know any other relaxing songs you can recommend I would appreciate it. I came across this song called "Om Mani Padme Hum" a few days ago and have been listening to it every day, its repetitive but relaxing. I will try to watch DOCTOR ZHIVAGO tonight but lately animated comedies have been all I care for. Thanks for the suggestions.

Glad you liked the sample of "Winter Dreams," Matt. I checked the youtube link you listed. Since I was working on a library computer and I don't carry earphones, I could only watch the video. But I know the symphony so well that I could imagine the music while I watched. The scenes were perfect. When you have time, I think you might enjoy the entire symphony. It's probably about 40 minutes long.

Have you ever heard a group called Runa Cuna? We've seen them perform at some area festivals over the years. They do music from the high Andes on reed flutes and pipes of pan. Very relaxing.

Since you enjoy animation, you might like Walt Disney's movie FANTASIA. It was originally released in 1940, but has been re-released many times since then. It combines very inventive animation with classical music.

Enjoy!
